Lincoln Cathedral Reopens Restored Wren Library to the Public

Lincoln Cathedral has reopened its historic Wren Library following a two-year, £1.6 million conservation project — the most significant work on the 17th-century building in a generation.

Completed in 1674 to a design by Sir Christopher Wren, the library houses one of the finest collections of early printed books and medieval manuscripts in the country. The project has stabilised the roof, restored the original oak shelving, and installed climate control to protect the collection for the future.

"This is a building of national importance, and for two years much of it has been behind scaffolding," said the Dean of Lincoln. "To open the doors again, and welcome visitors and school groups back in, is a genuinely joyful moment for the Cathedral and the city." Free guided tours of the restored library begin next month.
