Cathedral Quarter Regeneration: What's Next for Uphill Lincoln

The City of Lincoln Council has unveiled a comprehensive masterplan for the Cathedral Quarter, outlining a 10-year vision to enhance one of England's most historic city centre areas.

The £15 million plan focuses on public realm improvements, better pedestrian access between uphill and downhill Lincoln, and support for the area's growing independent retail sector.

Key proposals

• Pedestrianisation of Steep Hill on weekends and bank holidays
• New lighting for Castle Hill
• Improved signage and wayfinding
• New public square behind the Exchequergate arch
• Shuttle bus from Brayford car parks to Castle Square

The first phase of work is expected to begin in autumn 2026.
