What to pitch us for

We publish in a handful of formats, and they want quite different things. Picking the right one is the single biggest thing you can do to improve your odds — a pitch that names the format it’s for gets a faster and better answer than one that doesn’t.

Stories

Our standard write-up, in our own words, across business, property, lifestyle, culture and good news.

  • Who it suits: Appointments, expansions, milestones, projects, awards, anything with a human angle.
  • What we need: The facts, a named contact we can check them with, and at least one good photograph.
  • What gets it turned down: Releases with no Lincoln connection, no photography, or nothing that has actually happened yet.

New & Notable

A launch announcement rather than an article — a new place, opening, and what to expect from it.

  • Who it suits: Openings and launches. If your client is opening a door to the public, this is the one.
  • What we need: Opening date, location, what it is, and a set of photographs we can use — ideally more than one.
  • What gets it turned down: Soft launches with no date, and anything already open for months.

From the Feed

A scroll-on river of things worth seeing, built around a single strong image or clip and a short note.

  • Who it suits: The visually led moment that doesn’t need 500 words — a finished fit-out, an event in full swing.
  • What we need: One genuinely good photograph you own outright, at a decent size, and a sentence about it.
  • What gets it turned down: Stock imagery, logos, screenshots, and anything we’d have to crop to make work.

Great Days Out

A reviewed day out, visited and scored by us across five measures, in a family or a couples league.

  • Who it suits: Attractions and venues that want to be visited — but read the next line carefully.
  • What we need: An invitation, not a submission. We visit, we photograph it ourselves, and we publish the score we give it.
  • What gets it turned down: Anything conditional. We don’t agree coverage, copy approval or a minimum score in advance.

Lincoln Originals

Our map and record of the independent places that make Lincoln itself, written up after we visit.

  • Who it suits: Independents — the ones that are genuinely of this city rather than a branch of something.
  • What we need: A reason it belongs, and an address. As with days out, we visit before we write.
  • What gets it turned down: Chains, franchises, and anything where the story is the marketing rather than the place.

Game Changers

A written Q&A with someone genuinely influential in their field. In development.

  • Who it suits: Senior people with something to say — the key-person coverage that’s hard to get locally.
  • What we need: A nomination and the case for it. Subjects are chosen editorially.
  • What gets it turned down: It cannot be bought, and a nomination is not a route in. Both of those are permanent.

Formats you can’t pitch

Pin it! is a reader game and Lincoln Pulse is our own polling of readers — neither takes submissions. Shout-outs are given by readers about places listed in Lincoln Originals, so they aren’t ours to place either.

Not sure?

Send it anyway with a line about what you think it is, to editor@lovelincoln.co.uk. We’d rather point you at the right format than have you not ask.
